SCA in "The Road to Copenhagen"

04/02/2010

The United Nations Climate change conference 2009 (COP15) was hosted in Copenhagen on December 7-18 in 2009.  At that time SCA participated in an episode of CNBC Europe Asia Pacific “The Road to Copenhagen: Seal the Deal” which ran at the time of the conference.  In episode 7 of this broadcast it focuses on the efforts of SCA's business, in partnership with other stakeholders, to reduce emissions, increase resource efficiency, invest in natural infrastructure and adopt new, clean technologies.

As security of energy supply and reduction of Co2 emissions are becoming a greater priorities on political agendas worldwide, all companies are faced with finding effective solutions to require innovative energy policies that make maximum use of renewable resources.  At SCA, we continue to work towards this with our 4 sustainability targets:

  • Carbon dioxide emissions: Through to 2020, emissions from fossil fuels will be reduced by 20%, using 2005 as a base year.

  • Improved water usage: SCA established its target for water usage in 2005: to reduce consumption by 15% and reduce organic content in wastewater by 30%.

  • Responsible use of wood raw material: No fresh fibre-based material used in production shall derive from controversial sources.

  • Code of Conduct compliance: SCA’s Code of Conduct applies to all employees at all locations worldwide.
